I am very in love with this country, and when you fall in love; it has to be the complete package. So I have discovered this place at Soweto; most probably because I am in a student environment at the University of Johannesburg.
Not far than a few weeks back, my friend reintroduced me to Mamuratuwa’s Takeaways. “Their food is just awesome and fresh”. I told them.
Mamoratuwa started her business to feed her family with the little money she was making. Little she knew was that it could become a chilling spot for students. The atmosphere around there just makes it a nice place to chill and rest after an unpleasant test or exams.
Students flock to the hotspot for some Kota. |
There has be a kind of revamp in the way mum the take away time is operated. Everything runs smoothly and the quality of the bread is just perfect. I wonder who supplies them. The takeaway outlet has one speciality commonly known as “Kota”, which is actually a quarter of a bread filled with either Chakalaka or Archar (mango slices in oil or something like that) as a base. Then there are a plethora of choices that either give you a typical Sowetan Kota and or Mince Kota. I have fallen in love with the latter, not because of the price as it just costs a modest 10 but because of the discovery. It is something of a Treasury found a recipe the mix of bread, mince and smashed potato. I have literally eaten it every day I step a foot at UJ Soweto Campus.
I have decided to write this article to share that experience. In addition, probably to let you know that you should pass by whenever you are near the UJ campus.
